How to sign up an Apprentice
  1. Find a person you want to hire as an apprentice (this could be a new person or an existing employee)
  2. Contact your regional MTCU office, use this link to help you locate.
  3. An MTCU Training Consultant will arrange a meeting and, upon successful approval, complete the necessary paper work

MTCU can also provide you with information on the various incentives available for both employers and employees. This information is also available at: Government Programs/Incentives

  • Send an employee to one of the certificate programs.

  • Sign up a new or existing hire as an apprentice.

Apprenticeship

The Marine Engine Technician (Trade Code 435b) apprenticeship program involves:

  • 4280 hours of “on the job” training (over approx. 2 to 3 year period)
  • 720 hours of in school training (3 eight week in class sessions – Levels 1,2 and 3)

Apprenticeship training is currently being offered at 3 community colleges in Ontario:

Midland Campus
North Bay
Sault Ste. Marie
